Dowlen ArtWorks is a design, illustration and fine art studio located in the Willamette Valley just Southwest of Portland Oregon.
Operating his art studio for over 30 years without interruption, creator James Dowlen has successfully given life to this studio
from its first inception in 1972. His early pen and ink illustrations and fantasy paintings of the 1970's gave James a reputable name
in the San Francisco, Bay Area art world.
In 1984, James was chosen to pioneer some of the earliest digital tools of the computer revolution. Among the very first to bring digital
illustrations to print media, and computerized animation to video, way before these mediums became mainstream. During this storm of new
and exciting creativity, James' reputation spread wide and far.
Some of James' notable clientele has included WED (Walt Elias Disney Enterprises), Twentieth Century Fox, and Lucas Film at SkyWalker
Ranch. James created work for advertising/PR agencies, such as J. Walter Thompson in Chicago. James worked personally with Steven Spielberg
at his Hollywood Studios, Amblin Productions at Universal City. James also worked extensively with legendary Art Director Chris Blum,
and with the 50's Beat Poet and very familiar voice talent Ken Nordine, creating Ads for his famed classic Levi Jeans commercials.
Now producing a constant flow of paintings and prints, designing wine labels, and working on private or corporate mural commissions, James
is forever creating.
